Converting
a TeleMagic Macintosh Database to TeleMagic for Windows
Create the TeleMagic for Windows Database Open the TeleMagic for
Windows database into which you will be importing the data. If
you do not yet have a database available for the import, we recommend
creating one using the "DOS Style" template. The structure of
this database is the one most similar to the Macintosh version.
If
you have added additional fields to the database in the Macintosh
version, you will need to add the same fields to the Windows version.
Be sure to use the same field names, as well as field type and
length. If the structure of the database is exactly the same as
the Macintosh version, you will be able to "Auto Assign" fields
to greatly simplify the import process.
Export
the Data from the Macintosh Version
Export
the required records from the Macintosh version in dBase format,
then transfer both of the resulting files to the PC.
There
are a number of ways to transfer files from a Macintosh to a PC.
PC Exchange for the Macintosh will read and write 1.44MB floppy
disks which were created with a PC. MacLink Plus PC is another
excellent utility which allows you to connect two computers via
a null modem cable, and transfer files without worrying about
whether the files are too big to fit on a single floppy.
Create
a dBase III Import Format
Create
a dBase III import format in the Windows version.
Select
the DBF file which was transferred from the Macintosh and assign
fields for the import. If the structure of your new database matches
the structure of the file from the Macintosh, use the Auto Assign
feature to assign the fields. Make sure all the field assignments
are correct, then run the import.
Verify
that the import completed correctly by viewing the new records
in the database. If for any reason you are not happy with the
results, use the Group Delete feature to remove the records from
the database. Make whatever changes are necessary to the import
format, then run the import again.
