Automation Server - Fax Setup

Question: I am using TeleMagic 4.5 and I would like to make full use of the fax capabilities found within the Automation Server. What type of system and settings do you recommend?

Answer: The Automation Server is capable of operating on multiple platforms (i.e., Win ’95, ’98, Windows NT 4.0 with SP3 or higher, and Windows 2000). We have found that the best performance can be achieved by utilizing the Automation Server in the environment of either Windows NT or Windows 2000. Additional information and settings are outlined below.

System Requirements:
If a workstation is going to be dedicated as an Automation Server workstation, the minimum hardware requirement is a Pentium 200 with 64 MB of RAM. The operating system requirements are the same as for TeleMagic Enterprise (Windows 95 or 98, or Windows NT 4.0). Windows NT 4.0 Workstation is strongly recommended for dedicated Automation Server workstations.

Establishing an Automation Server on Windows NT or Windows 2000:

The Automation Server utilizes components found in the Remote Access Service of Windows NT. It is therefore necessary to install “RAS” (Remote Access Service) on the NT Workstation that is going to be used as a dedicated Fax Server for TeleMagic. This is not a requirement for Windows ‘9x. The RAS service is installed by opening the Network Properties, Services tab. RAS should be configured for “Dial Out Only” on an available COM port that is NOT going to be used by TeleMagic. When adding a device for RAS choose the “Install Modem” button to select the option of “Don’t Detect my modem; I will select it from a list”. This will provide you with the option to install the “Standard Modem – Dial-Up Networking Serial Cable between 2 PCs”. The purpose of these steps are to ensure that RAS installed, which also requires a device for use, that does not interfere with any of the modems or ports defined for TeleMagic. In essence, it is necessary to ensure that an available COM port can be selected, other than a COM port that will be used by TeleMagic.
