Last updated on: 8-29-02 TELEMAGIC ENTERPRISE V5 SERVICE PACK 4 FILE README V5SP4.TXT This document Details fixes to V5 SP4 and information about previous service packs for version 5.0. ========================================================= =========================== 1. FAULTS FIXED IN SP4 2. KNOWN ISSUES IN SP4 3. CHANGES IN SP3 4. FAULTS FIXED IN SP3 5. CHANGES IN SP2 6. FAULTS FIXED IN SP2 7 CHANGES IN SP1 8. FAULTS FIXED IN SP1 9. IMPORTANT TECHNICAL INFORMATION ========================= =========================== 1. FAULTS FIXED IN SP4 =========================== CONTACT MANAGER --------------- HF5-00333 Contact record is accidentally being edited when closing "Set Recall" dialog box depending on how "Set Recall" is opened (toolbar vs. button on Call Notes). DATA SYNCHRONIZATION -------------------- HF5-00334 Custom Reports are not being synchronized unless report is modified. HF5-00337 Documents do not stay linked to contact during synchronization. HF5-00341 If the setting "Initialize records when filtered data changes" is checked, DSS crashes. FAXING ------ HF5-00335 Captured external documents will store the TMF file in the c:\program files\telemagic\fax\faxdocs\ directory which causes an error when previewing an external doc. This path would also be inaccessable to the automation server. IMPORT ------ HF5-00329 Hitting the ESC key will not cancel the import. SYSTEM INFO ------ HF5-00336 The error message "Unable to setup Faxman in Local Programs Directory" is displayed whether "Check System Files" is set to "Y" or "N" in the TM.INI. This causes a Citrix or Terminal Service program to stop. =========================== 2. KNOWN ISSUES IN SP4 =========================== PENDING ACTIVITY ---------------- The Pending Activity browse does not close when clicking on the "To Contact" button. It is sent to the background. Any changes made after the window is opened will not be reflected in the browse window. To refresh the browse with any changes, close and re-open the browse window. ====================== 3. CHANGES IN SP3 ====================== QUEUEING FAXES -------------- When queueing a fax, a drop-down list allows you to select the queue. The queues beginning with 'Print' have been removed from that drop-down. INDEXES ------- If "Don't display this index in the Contact Manager" is marked for an index, that index can no longer be used for searches in the Goto dialog box, even for Multiple Index searches. The index will only be available for use with reports. WORD PROCESSOR SUPPORT ---------------------- Support for Word 97 was removed, and support for Word XP was added. SOFTLOCK ENTRY IN TM.INI ------------------------ The entry "Softlock Enabled = Yes/No" has been added to the TM.INI. The default value for this entry is No. PREFERENCES CHANGE ------------------ In Dialer Preferences, the "Release Modem After" radio buttons in Custom Configuration Settings have been moved to the main Dialer Preferences screen, and now apply to both TAPI and custom dialer. =========================== 4. FAULTS FIXED IN SP3 =========================== ACTIVITY MANAGER ---------------- HF5-00185 When an assignee of a Group To-Do opened the To-Do and clicked OK, a blank line was added to the Comments. HF5-00186 When an assignee of a Group Activity opened the Activity and clicked OK, a blank line was added to the Comments. HF5-00239 When adding an activity, the up and down arrow keys checked and unchecked resources on the Resources tab. HF5-00253 Some attributes of activities were not being saved. HF5-00286 On the Rejected Activities screen, after editing an activity, focus jumped to the top of the list rather than remaining on the one just edited. HF5-00287 On the Rejected Activities screen, after deleting an activity, the activity was removed but a blank activity was then added to the bottom of the list. HF5-00288 On the Rejected Activities screen, returning an activity added a blank entry to the bottom of the list. HF5-00307 In Customize Icons, there was no validation to see if the path/file name entered actually existed. HF5-00311 If the Pending Activity List was open, and you attempted to open the Pending Activity List in a second instance of TeleMagic, the error "File Access Denied" was generated. HF5-00317 After creating a Global Extended Activity, the owner was not allowed to change the activity. ADD/EDIT FIELDS --------------- HF5-00254 Editing a field that contained a dropdown list removed the dropdown from the field. AUTOMATION SERVER ----------------- HF5-00251 When using 12-hour format, there were problems with editing a fax's hold time. HF5-00258 Selecting a Server, then a Queue, then clicking Maintenance (in that specific order), resulted in "Error 5: Record is out of range". HF5-00262 When editing an item in a print queue or when moving an item to a print queue, you were required to enter a fax number. HF5-00300 In the Automation Server, on the E-mail Configuration page, the User Name field for Dial up Networking was only 13 characters long. This has been increased to 50 characters. CONTACT MANAGER --------------- HF5-00254 In some cases, there were problems selecting entries in a Page Frame. HF5-00264 If a level 3 field's default value was based on a level 2 field's default value, the error "invalid calculation" appeared in the level 3 field after adding a level 3 record. HF5-00269 When using an index that has "Don't display this index in the Contact Manager" marked, after searching for a record using that index in Goto, the Index drop-down list on the Contact Manager displayed the index that follows the one just used in alphabetical order. HF5-00271 Indexes marked as "Don't display this index in the Contact Manager" were being used when searching with Goto. HF5-00285 If the Goto or Contact Browse feature was used while on a record that contained an empty OLE field, the computer's resources stayed at 99 to 100%. HF5-00322 In some cases, new records needed to be edited twice to pass field validation. DATA SYNCHRONIZATION -------------------- HF5-00276 When TIM sent e-mail to records in a filter, stamping the notepads in the process, the central installation then synchronized all of the fields in each record in the filter to the remotes instead of just the notepad field that was changed. HF5-00303 Central was not synchronizing any "Site Specific" databases' Custom Reports, unless the database was also included as a "Global" database with at least one Custom Report selected to be synchronized. HF5-00304 Global and database documents did not sychronize unless the site had been set to Global settings in DSS. If only site-specific settings were configured for a site, the documents would not be synchronized. HF5-00318 When a packet containing a database that does not exist at the remote site was processed at the remote, an error occurred. DATABASE UTILITIES ------------------ HF5-00296 Viewing a packet containing a large notepad caused an error. FUNCTION KEYS ------------- HF5-00260 Function keys were unable to change the index in the Goto dialog box. IMPORT ------ HF5-00093 When an existing SDF import format is changed, a list of delimiters is shown on the screen, even though a delimiter cannot be selected. A message will now appear, informing the user that they cannot change the delimiter. HF5-00094 Changing a delimited import format to SDF caused an error. HF5-00097 Clicking the [X] in the upper-right corner of the Import Wizard did not provide a save confirmation dialog box. MESSAGE TAKER ------------- HF5-00308 The Properties of a Message Taker message did not show the Sent date and time. HF5-00309 If the Message Taker was closed after viewing a message's Properties, the System Toolbar remained disabled. OUTLOOK LINK ------------ HF5-00263 The Current Contact radio button was unavailable for existing messages. HF5-00310 When searching for a specific record, the record that was then highlighted in the browse window was the last one in the list, rather than the correct record. REBUILD ------- HF5-00066 The rebuild report contained erroneous error messages. HF5-00281 A new table added to the \COMMON directory, TMASQUE, was not being packed during external rebuild. REPORTS ------- HF5-00170 After printing a custom or standard report, the default FoxPro directory in TeleMagic was being changed to the directory selected in the Save As dialog box. HF5-00302 When using Windows XP, no Dymo Labelwriter reports were available. SCREEN DESIGNER --------------- HF5-00259 When on the last level of a database, the "Contact List" button on the Page Frame Properties dialog box was available. SECURITY -------- HF5-00034 When the Edit Preferences check box was marked on the System Level Security screen, the check box 'Database Preferences' was still available in Database Security. SPELL CHECKER ------------- HF5-00206 The Spell Checker was creating a CFG file. This caused an OLE error if the user did not have rights to the area where the file was being created. TELEMAGIC INTERNET MAIL ----------------------- HF5-00243 When a message was received in TIM, part of the message was deleted. HF5-00261 In the Server Properties dialog box, on the Send tab, the E-Mail Address field was truncating addresses longer than 32 characters. This has been increased to 75 characters. HF5-00268 Apostrophes in e-mail addresseses were removed, resulting in mail being returned with an "unknown recipient" error. HF5-00284 An apostrophe used in the "I am known as" field in TIM, or an apostrophe in the Name portion of an incoming e-mail, was removed from the From portion of the e-mail when received in TIM. WORD PROCESSING --------------- HF5-00305 When selecting to preview and save a document, the document was not being saved. ====================== 5. CHANGES IN SP2 ====================== EXTERNAL PROGRAMS ----------------- Buttons placed on the screen to run external programs can now execute APP and FXP programs, as well as EXE, COM, and BAT. =========================== 6. FAULTS FIXED IN SP2 =========================== ACTIVITY MANAGER ---------------- HF5-00219 "Error 12: Variable comment is not found" occurred when adding a second comment to a To-Do. HF5-00233 After changing existing comments in a To-Do, the old comments were added to the new comments. HF5-00238 If existing comments in a To-Do were deleted, they would return after saving the To-Do. ADD/EDIT FIELDS --------------- HF5-00230 After editing and saving a Pager field, any default value expression entered was not retained. AUTO RESPONDER -------------- HF5-00198 The Auto Responder did not accept a V5 serial number when registering. AUTOMATION SERVER ----------------- After expanding a filtered fax or print job, the "To" field was empty. Any <> directives included in the document were not merged. CUSTOM REPORTS -------------- HF5-00192 Without existing reports in the Custom Reports list, clicking Add followed by Cancel caused an error. HF5-00228 When printing a Custom Report located on the Reports menu, if the report used an invalid filter, an error occurred. DATA SYNCHRONIZATION -------------------- HF5-00209, HF5-00226 If a script was running when DSS displayed a message, the message had to be acknowledged before the script would continue. HF5-00211 Some FTP server software adds, drops, or moves columns so that DSS was unable to download packets. To compensate for this, a new section has been added to the DS2.INI file: [FTP Columns] File Name Column=9 File Size Column=5 File Date Column=6 File Time Column=8 File Attributes Column=1 The number following the entries in this section is the location of each column. For example, the file name is usually in the ninth column. If there is a problem retrieving DSS packets from an FTP server, consult with the FTP site's administrator (or log onto the FTP site and view a list of files) to find the correct column locations, and then enter those numbers in this section of the DS2.INI file. The numbers shown above are the default for these entries. If this section is not present in the DS2.INI, these are the numbers that will be used. HF5-00212 In the DSServer rebuild program, the two archive radio buttons were unavailable. HF5-00221 When a RCL field containing a time in 12-hour format was synchronized, the time format was changed to 24-hour. This caused an extra "a" or "p" to be added to the end of the time. HF5-00222 LCL fields were not being synchronized. HF5-00227 After running DSRemote with both the /SCRIPT and /X parameters, the program did not close after finishing the script as expected, and if it was then closed manually an error occurred. DATABASE UTILITIES ------------------ HF5-00199 In the DSS Packet Viewer, the "invalid date" error message shows "/TD" as a DSS command line parameter. This has been changed to "/STD". DIALER ------ HF5-00220 After entering call notes, if the Call Notes window was moved behind the Contact Manager and then back to the front, the notes were erased. EXPORT ------ HF5-00195 Without existing Export Formats in the list, clicking Add followed by Cancel caused an error. MISCELLANEOUS ------------- HF5-00196 The HasActivity() function only worked if the date format was set to MM/DD/YYYY. HF5-00197 ALT+C in a function key did not work. HF5-00204 Function Keys assigned to the Ctrl key did not work if the Ctrl key on the right side of the keyboard was used. OUTLOOK LINK ------------ HF5-00215 When sending a merged message in Outlook, if the record in TeleMagic was in edit mode, an error occurred. SCREEN DESIGNER --------------- HF5-00224 Buttons placed on a page in the Screen Designer and assigned a function key did not appear in the Set Input Order list. SPELL CHECKER ------------- HF5-00193 Without existing words in the Spell Checker Dictionary, clicking Add followed by Cancel caused an error. TELEMAGIC INTERNET MAIL ----------------------- HF5-00217 Certain combinations of characters in e-mail received in TIM were being replaced by other characters. QUICK LISTS ----------- HF5-00194 Without existing Quick Lists, clicking Add followed by Cancel caused an error. ====================== 7. CHANGES IN SP1 ====================== NEW ENTRY IN TM.INI ------------------- A new entry may now be added to the TM.INI to prevent the startup splash screen from loading. This can significantly speed up the TeleMagic startup when running it remotely. To implement this, add the following line to the [System Setup] section of that file: SplashScreen=N CALCULATE UPPER LEVEL ON SAVE ----------------------------- Calculate Upper Level on Save has been enhanced to include all upper level calculations, not just childsum() and childcount(). REFRESH CURRENT RECORD ---------------------- A Refresh option has been added to the Current Record menu. This feature will refresh the display of the Contact Manager without having to change records and return. The hotkey for this function is CTRL+H. If you have any function keys that use CTRL+H, you will need to assign them to a different hotkey. CLEARING SOFTLOCKS ------------------ If TeleMagic was closed abnormally, the current record was being locked and was unaccessable until the SoftLock table was cleared. An option has been added to the Database Utilities program which allows you to clear the locks. You can also clear the locks by running a rebuild with the System check box selected, or by running REBUILD.EXE with the /r parameter. =========================== 8. FAULTS FIXED IN SP1 =========================== ACTIVITY MANAGER ---------------- HF5-00042 When using Go To Contact in the Activity Manager, you were not being prompted to save before moving to a new record in the Contact Manager. HF5-00115 Hidden activities were showing in the Pending Activities list. HF5-00150 With an index selected in the Contact Manager, if an activity was opened and Go To Contact clicked, the correct contact appeared, but the records were then in natural order instead of the selected index. HF5-00169 If an activity's Status field was not empty, marking the "Completed" check box did not change the status to Completed. HF5-00182 If a user with "view only" restriction viewed the details of an extended activity created by another user, that activity was deleted. HF5-00183 In a To-Do that is assigned to multiple users, if the To-Do's comments were edited, any existing comments were overwritten. AUTO RESPONDER -------------- HF5-00145 The Auto Responder queued e-mail to the Automation Server even if the e-mail address field contained a pipe character. AUTOMATION SERVER ----------------- HF5-00040 An extra character was added to the beginning of a line if the string was longer than one line when the mail was sent through the Automation Server. HF5-00051 Attachments were sometimes ignored by the Automation Server when queued by the Auto Responder. HF5-00110 When a fax failed, the date that the fax was queued to the Automation Server is the date that was stamped in the notepad, rather than the date that the fax failed. HF5-00160 When sending a fax from a level 2 record, if a level 1 field was selected for the level 2 notepad key field, the wrong record's notepad was stamped. HF5-00184 In e-mail configuration, the default e-mail address field was truncating addresses longer than 30 characters. This has been increased to 75 characters. BRANCH SCRIPTING ---------------- HF5-00181 In a script with multiple level 3 branches on the last level 2 branch, double-clicking to select the last branch on level 2 caused "Error 230: Array dimensions are invalid". CONTACT MANAGER --------------- HF5-00039 Using Tagged filter, editing a record and then selecting a lower level resulted in "Error 230: Array dimensions invalid". HF5-00044 Buttons on the Contact Manager were not available to non-supervisors if "Full Access All Fields" was not marked. HF5-00045 Page Frames were not available to non-supervisors if "Full Access All Fields" was not marked. HF5-00052 If a field with an auto-launch list box was configured to be a drop-down, clicking the drop-down opened the list box, then opened the drop-down list after you closed the list box. HF5-00081 "Error 107 Operator/Operand type mismatch" occurred after clicking on a date icon. HF5-00083 Goto did not respect the current filter when the record was not found. HF5-00086 The description for Set Recall was not populated correctly. HF5-00091 Upgrading to V5.0 does not include the "Associated Files" icon for the toolbar. HF5-00099 Goto did not always find a record that did exist. HF5-00105 If Set Century was set to "off", the DBSERVER failed to stamp the notepad. HF5-00106 If the date picker icon was used to change the date when not in edit mode, the date was not changed. HF5-00114 The Field Search filter did not function correctly. HF5-00122 Error 107: Operator/operand type mismatch HF5-00123 In the Record Initialization dialog box, the Analyze button analyzed the first filter in the list rather than the selected filter. HF5-00129 The record count in Record Initialization differed from Filter Analysis results. HF5-00130 If e-mail was sent to a contact, and that contact record was then deleted, the e-mail was not deleted from the database's DBMAIL table. The function that deletes the contact has been updated to delete both the e-mail records from DBMAIL and the associated files from the FILELIST tables. HF5-00136 A memo field that used the function NPDMerge() with the "A" argument in the expression caused an "Open Programs" dialog box to appear when the field was edited. If the "D" argument was used, an error occurred. HF5-00137 Using the NPDMerge() function to combine memo fields caused the contents of the fields to be combined without a carriage return between them. HF5-00142 During a Group Delete/Recovery, the progress screen was hidden behind the Group Delete/Recover dialog box. HF5-00143 After reassigning a record, any associated files were missing. HF5-00147 If an alarm appeared for an activity linked to a contact in a different database, clicking Go To Contact caused "Error 12: Variable 'ACSCREENS' is not found". HF5-00151 When using Calculate Upper Level On Save, if a child record was deleted, any fields on the upper level that used childsum() in a calculation were not updated. HF5-00163 If you were in Edit mode on a record and clicked the Add Note button, the Save button in that dialog was misleading, because it doesn't actually save the record when clicked. The button has been changed to read "Close" if you are already in edit mode. If you are not in edit mode when you click the Add Note button, it will read "Save" and function as such. DATA SYNCHRONIZATION SERVER --------------------------- HF5-00104 Deleted Records were not synchronizing. HF5-00113 The record in the UNIQNUMS table that contains ds2flds.exprid was missing. It will now be added to that file when a rebuild is performed. DATABASE UTILITIES ------------------ HF5-00080 If TeleMagic was closed abnormally, the current record was being locked and was unaccessable until the SoftLock table was cleared. An option has been added to the Database Utilities program which allows you to clear the locks. HF5-00171 Path Update did not update the paths in the AUTORESP table. DIALER ------ HF5-00109 Error 1734 "Property CDIALSTART not found" occurs on an intermittent basis for multiple users when executing the dial function. HF5-00120 When dialing with TAPI with the "Release Modem After" setting set to Call Termination, dialing would only work once until TeleMagic was restarted. HF5-00127 The time stamped in the Call Notes memo field was 12 hours off if the time was 12:xx a.m. or 12:xx p.m. MISCELLANEOUS ------------- HF5-00065 In an unregistered V5 installation, a DEALER.INF file that was more than 254 characters did not display when the Dealer Info button was clicked at the Eval screen. HF5-00119 Updated FaxMan fax driver to version 3.53. HF5-00140 When copying a database, the progress screen was hidden behind the Copy a Database dialog box. HF5-00180 Setting the "Check System Files=" entry in the TM.INI to "N" caused an error. OUTLOOK LINK ------------ HF5-00049 When using Outlook to create an activity, the date appeared correctly in Outlook. However, when the activity was saved, the Due Date became today's date. HF5-00055 An "exception error" was generated when doing a Preview Merge in Outlook with a filter selected. HF5-00057 If merged fields were being used that were also Key Fields, the Key Fields were blank when previewing the merge. HF5-00069 INI and ZIP files were embedded in the WINMAIL.DAT file if they were received in any mail client other than Outlook or Exchange. HF5-00070 Drop-down lists in Outlook were not sorted. HF5-00072 When multiple accounts were configured in Outlook, an error message occurred when trying to send mail. HF5-00073 Outlook did not recognize that there was an e-mail key field defined on level 3 of the Opportunity database. HF5-00074 In Outlook, there was a problem retrieving level 3 records depending on what level was retrieved previously. HF5-00075 With Outlook as the default mail client, clicking on an e-mail field icon in TeleMagic caused an error message, and the message could not be sent. HF5-00077 An exception error occurred when sending a message through Outlook using the option "Send one copy of e-mail that includes all recipients". HF5-00082 If the default mail client was a program other than Outlook or TIM, Outlook was used. HF5-00084 Outlook did not include the user name in the notepad stamp. HF5-00085 An exception error occurred when sending to a filter in one database, while merging for a contact in another database. HF5-00107 In rare cases Outlook did not stamp the notepad. HF5-00126 An "Illegal Operation" error occurred in Outlook when merging and sending a document. HF5-00146 Some TeleMagic filters did not appear in the Outlook link filter list. REBUILD ------- HF5-00064 A Zip Code Lookup error occurred when running an external rebuild with Calculated Fields selected. HF5-00067 Internal rebuild was not turning off alarm application. REGISTRATION ------------ HF5-00003 If ten serial numbers were entered on the second page of the Registration program, then duplicate numbers were entered on the following page, the result was "Error 1734: Property REFRESH is not found". HF5-00101 The printout of the Fax Registration form truncated the last five digits of the fax number if an international number was used. REPORTS ------- HF5-00041 The Avery 5266 label was printing incorrectly. HF5-00172 - HF5-00176 Printing reports to the Adobe Acrobat PDFWriter printer driver generated errors. SCREEN DESIGNER --------------- HF5-00088 If you attempted to make a Date field into a drop-down list by marking the Dropdown List check box for that field's properties in Screen Designer, errors occurred when loading the Contact Manager. The Dropdown List check box is now only available for character and numeric fields. TELEMAGIC INTERNET MAIL ----------------------- HF5-00002, HF5-00050 Mail in which the body of the message started with a period was not sent, and eventually generated an error message. HF5-00040 An extra character was added to the beginning of a line if the string was longer than one line when the mail was received. HF5-00054 Depending upon the "Break text line at" setting in Options, the text in a sent message body contained words that were run together. HF5-00098 If a user did not have SMTP or POP3 configured, an error occurred when replying to an open internal e-mail message. HF5-00100 E-mail messages containing only HTML were not received. HF5-00112 Connection timeouts occurred when receiving certain messages. HF5-00132 TeleMagic Internet Mail was not able to receive certain messages. This caused any messages following to fail as well. HF5-00159 When working with folders in TIM, any options selected from the right-click menu worked on the folder last selected with a left-click, rather than on the item that was right-clicked. HF5-00177 Linking a new message to a contact using the TeleMagic menu did not place the message in the contact's e-mail rollup. HF5-00179 If the "Make TeleMagic Internet Mail my default mail client" check box in Options was not marked, and a change was made on that screen and saved, the default mail client in Windows' Internet Options was removed. WORD PROCESSING --------------- HF5-00188 In some cases, when printing a document using the Tagged Records filter, the document was printed for some of the records, but then several copies of the document were printed for the same record. HF5-00189 If you selected the Tagged Records filter in either the Contact Manager or the Print Options dialog box, the Index drop-down list was unavailable. ======================================= 9. IMPORTANT TECHNICAL INFORMATION ======================================= NEW VFP RUN-TIME MODULE ----------------------- Beginning with V5 SP1, TeleMagic Enterprise is compiled using the latest update of Visual FoxPro, Service Pack 5. The new VFP run-time module is included in the update. If you use any other VFP applications on the same system as TeleMagic, including any TeleMagic add-on products, you must contact the application's vendor BEFORE installing SP3, and ensure that the application has been re-compiled using the latest VFP service pack. VFP applications that have not been re-compiled using VFP Service Pack 5 may no longer function after installing V5 SP3. TeleMagic Enterprise V4 has also been re-compiled, as V4.5.6 SP3, using the new VFP service pack. If you use V4 and V5 SP1, SP2, or SP3 on the same system, you must install the update to V4 in order for it to function. This update is available on the TeleMagic R&D FTP site at ftp.telemagicrnd.com, in the /Download/V4.5 directory. DYMO LABELWRITER ---------------- If you are using the Dymo LabelWriter, you must update the Dymo LabelWriter driver to version 4.2 or later. FAX DRIVER CHANGES ------------------ The TeleMagic fax driver has been updated for greater stability. The V5 SP1 update also moves the fax driver files from the Windows System directory to their own directory in \Program Files\TeleMagic\Fax. The V4 update also includes the new fax driver update for compatibility with V5, however the V4 fax driver will remain in the Windows System directory. WINDOWS NT SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ------------------------------ NT Service Pack 6a must be installed. WINDOWS 95, 98, NT, AND MDAC ---------------------------- V5 requires MDAC version 2.5. More specifically, V5 requires the ODBC drivers that are installed with MDAC 2.5. While MDAC version 2.6 is the latest release from Microsoft, it does not include the ODBC drivers necessary to run TeleMagic. This is a concern if you are: A) using Windows 95, 98, or NT and have installed MDAC 2.6 without first installing MDAC 2.5, or B) if you are using 95, 98, or NT and have never installed any version of MDAC or Microsoft Office. If either of these two scenarios applies to you, follow the appropriate instructions below. This is not an issue with Windows ME or 2000, as the necessary files are included with these operating systems. For more information on MDAC, see the MDAC AND TELEMAGIC section at the end of this document. Please note that depending on what is installed and what is not installed on your system, the dialog boxes you see during installation may be different than what is documented here. If you are using Windows 95, 98, or NT and have installed MDAC 2.6 without first installing MDAC 2.5: 1. Run V5SETUP.EXE. 2. Run TM.EXE. 3. You may receive an error stating that some files could not be copied, and the computer must be restarted. If this happens, click YES to restart. 4. Run TM.EXE. 5. Windows Installer will be installed. After it has finished, you will be asked to restart. Click NO. (If you click YES, you must click OK and then CANCEL on the resulting messages and restart manually.) 6. When the Windows Installer has finished installing, click OK on the System Setup screen. 7. Another System Setup screen will appear. Click CANCEL. 8. A message will appear asking if the Windows Installer has finished installing. Click CANCEL to restart. 9. Run TM.EXE. 10. The VFP ODBC driver installation wizard will appear. Follow the instructions in the wizard to install the drivers. When the wizard has completed the installation, click FINISH. 11. On the System Setup screen, click OK. TeleMagic will start. If you are using Windows 95, 98, or NT and have NOT installed any version of MDAC or Microsoft Office: 1. Run V5SETUP.EXE. 2. Run TM.EXE. 3. You may receive an error stating that some files could not be copied, and the computer must be restarted. If this happens, click YES to restart. 4. Run TM.EXE. 5. You will receive a message stating that MDAC 2.5 is not installed. Click OK to begin copying files. 6. Accept the license agreement and click Next. 7. Click Next to begin the MDAC installation. 8. When the installation is complete, click FINISH. TELEMAGIC PROFESSIONAL ---------------------- The V5 upgrade will not convert TeleMagic Professional databases to V5, therefore they will not appear in the list of databases. To use Professional databases, upgrade the Professional installation to V3 or V4, then make templates of the databases. Install these templates in a new V5 installation. OUTLOOK VERSIONS SUPPORTED -------------------------- The e-mail link requires Outlook 2000 or 2002. It will not function with Outlook Express, Outlook 97, or Outlook 98 because those programs do not provide a COM server for Add-ins. OUTLOOK PREVIEW --------------- In Outlook, if an e-mail message is created in plain text, previewing the message will change it to Rich Text. This is by design of the Outlook API, and cannot be avoided. The message can be manually changed back to Plain Text from the Outlook menu. TELEMAGIC MENU IN OUTLOOK 2002 ------------------------------ In previous versions of Outlook, the default editor for e-mail messages was Outlook. In Outlook 2002, the default editor is Word. When using Word as the editor, the TeleMagic menu will not appear on the Outlook menu bar. For this reason, Word is not supported as the Outlook editor when using the link. To change this setting in Outlook, select Options from the Tools menu, then select the Mail Format tab. Unmark the "Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages" check box. OUTLOOK SECURITY MESSAGE ------------------------ If you have installed the optional security patch in Outlook 2000, or if you are using Outlook 2002 or Office XP, a message will appear when sending e-mail stating "a program is trying to automatically send e-mail on your behalf. Do you want to allow this?" It is necessary to click the "Yes" button to continue. If you are sending e-mail to a filtered group of records, the message will appear for each individual e-mail in the filter. According to Microsoft, this is a limitation of the current version of Office. For more information, see the Microsoft Knowledgebase article at: http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/download/outsecwp.doc WINDOWS XP ODBC DRIVERS ----------------------- The ODBC drivers installed with Windows XP are an older version than that required by TeleMagic. A newer version of these drivers is required in order for certain e-mail and Application Server features to function properly. Specifically, the Automation Server will not send e-mail, Data Synchronization Server will not transfer packets via e-mail, and an installation's list of available databases in the TMAS configuration program will be empty if the older drivers are installed. To determine the version and update if necessary, follow these instructions: 1. Open the Control Panel. 2. Open Performance and Maintenance. 3. Open Administrative Tools. 4. Open Data Sources (ODBC). 5. Click the Drivers tab. 6. In the list of installed drivers, look for the "Microsoft Visual FoxPro Driver". In an unmodified XP installation, the version number will be 1.00.02.00. 7. Using Windows Explorer, locate the TeleMagic Enterprise installation's \System directory. 8. Double-click the file VFPODBC.MSI in that directory. The ODBC drivers will be updated to version 6.01.8629.01. AUTOMATION SERVER ON WINDOWS XP ------------------------------- When running the Automation Server on Windows XP, the working directory must be set to a local drive. LIST BOXES IN PREFERENCES ------------------------- List Boxes in Preferences are not supported. Although it is possible to use a list box in Preferences, changes made using a list box will not be saved. MDAC AND TELEMAGIC ------------------ Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) is utilized by both Enterprise V5 and NetClient products. MDAC version 2.5 included the Visual FoxPro ODBC drivers which are required by Enterprise. These drivers are not necessary for NetClient. Beginning with MDAC version 2.6, Microsoft decided to exclude the ODBC drivers for VFP and Jet Engine for Access from MDAC. TeleMagic products require MDAC 2.5 in order to install. Windows 2000 and Windows ME are distributed with MDAC 2.5 pre-installed. On systems that already have MDAC 2.5 installed, MDAC 2.6 may be installed without causing any problems with TeleMagic. This applies to Windows 2000 and Windows ME as well. The problem resides with Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT when MDAC 2.6 is installed without first installing 2.5. To our knowledge, there is no way to uninstall MDAC 2.6, and as a result you were not able to install TeleMagic. We have updated our Enterprise V5 and NetClient V1.5 products to address this issue. We have modified our products to look for MDAC 2.6. If installed, they will work with it. We will also check to see if the ODBC drivers need to be installed. If necessary, they will be installed as well. In order to install the ODBC drivers, Windows requires the "Windows Installer" components. These components are already installed in Windows 2000 and Windows ME, and they are also installed by Microsoft Office 2000. If TeleMagic detects that these components are not installed, they will be installed as well. These changes have obviously added a number of additional files to TeleMagic and has enlarged our setup programs. Unfortunately we had no other option but to compensate for Microsoft's decision to exclude these vital components from MDAC. info@telemagic.ca phone: 1-514-907-1174 www.telemagic.ca
